In many ways, the waterways today are only here because of volunteers. The waterways would be very different without them. Volunteers play a key role in our vision for the waterways so if you are looking for an exciting opportunity to support our 200 year old canal network we would love to hear from you. Be a part of it.

Anyone can volunteer. We aim to make volunteering opportunities as accessible as possible and to suit you depending on your experience, enthusiasm, ability and availability.

The joy of the waterways is that there's probably an opportunity around the corner. As half of the population live within five miles of one of our waterways, volunteering with British Waterways usually means local volunteering.
